Nursing and Midwifery College in Zuarungu Unveils New Skills Laboratory

ZUARUNGU: The Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC) in Zuarungu has inaugurated a newly constructed 350-capacity skills laboratory, aiming to enhance practical education for its students. The facility, which includes offices, stores, self-practice, and sluice rooms, marks the first phase of a larger project that will eventually house a skills laboratory, library, and an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) complex.

According to Ghana News Agency, the project was funded through the College’s internally generated funds, supplemented by support from philanthropists and donors. The initiative was completed in just one year under the guidance of Mr. Michael Yidana Mantamia, the Principal of the College. At the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Mantamia expressed gratitude to individuals and organizations, including Ghana Cement (GHACEM) and the 2022/2023 Students Representative Council, for their contributions to the facility’s construction.

Mr. Mantamia also recognized Dr. Edward Bright Agyekum from
the Ministry of Health for his assistance in securing necessary approvals from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance. Dr. Agyekum emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement and investment in educational infrastructure, commending the College for its bold initiative.

Alhaji Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper East Regional Minister, praised the College for its dedication to nursing and midwifery education and its role in developing the health sector’s human resources. He acknowledged the College’s achievements as inspirational for the region.

Additionally, Naba Bilea Namaaletinga Afeghera III, the Paramount Chief of the Zuarungu Traditional Area, affirmed the Traditional Council’s ongoing support for the College. He expressed hope for continued assistance from governmental bodies to meet the institution’s logistical and infrastructural needs.
