NPP Left COCOBOD in Better State Than We Found It – Kodua Claims

Accra: The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has defended his party's record in the cocoa sector, insisting that the NPP left the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) in a stronger position than how they inherited it. Kodua argued that the current cocoa pricing does not support claims that the sector is performing better than it did under the NPP administration. According to Ghana Web, Kodua stated that during the NPP's tenure, farmers received GH?3,100, compared to the current GH?2,500. He questioned how current conditions could be seen as an improvement over the NPP's period. He made these remarks during an appearance on TV3 on February 13, 2026. Kodua further referenced campaign promises made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), particularly their pledge to pay farmers GH?6,000, a figure that he noted has not been realized. He suggested that if the NDC had fulfilled this promise, then a comparison of performance between the two parties could be made more credibly. H e emphasized that discussions on the cocoa sector should be rooted in facts and fairness rather than partisan perspectives. Kodua urged Ghanaians to objectively evaluate the situation and express their views when necessary. He dismissed allegations from the NDC regarding the NPP's management of the cocoa sector as "totally absurd" and encouraged a non-partisan approach to critique, highlighting the importance of acknowledging issues irrespective of political affiliations.
