A political science lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Nii Amartei Amartey has waved into the reported resignation of Alan Kyerematen as the Minister of Trade and Industry.

In his view, the move by the politician is to set him up for the upcoming flagbearer elections of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to Starr FM in an interview, Nii Amartei Amartey said perhaps it is a move for Alan Kyerematen to prepare the grounds for the flagbearer race knowing that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has more visibility than him.

“It is something to be expected for him to have some space in terms of time and any other things so he can continue to achieve what he personally wants to achieve for himself.

“He might have gauged the atmosphere and perhaps might have concluded that he might not have done enough. So let me resign and then go into serious work so as to help me achieve the presidential ambition that I have decided on,” the Political Science lecturer shared.

Nii Amartei Amartey added, “Besides, he is also going to compete with some persons among whom have the Vice President. The Vice President perhaps has more visibility than him as Minister. So definitely he might have realized that there is more to be done if he has to succeed in his journey of becoming the President of Ghana.”

Early on Friday morning, news broke that Alan Kyeremateng has resigned as Minister of Trade and Ministry.

Sources said the leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) tendered his resignation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday, January 5.

It has long been known that Alan harbours a dream to become President and will be contesting the flagbearership of the NPP to seek the mandate of the party to lead them into the 2024 general elections.
