Bolgatanga: Mr Anthony Namoo, Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged members to close their ranks, end internal divisions, and work together to recapture power in the 2028 general elections. He pointed to the party's poor performance in the 2024 elections, particularly in the Upper East Region, as partly due to unhealthy rivalry, indiscipline, and internal acrimony among members.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Namoo shared this advice during an appreciation and dinner night he organized to recognize individuals who contributed to the development and progress of the party in the region. The event, themed 'In All Things, Give Thanks to God,' was attended by members of the party's Regional Council of Elders and Patrons, regional and constituency executives, former chief executives, former Members of Parliament, ambassadors, party supporters, and other stakeholders.
Mr Namoo, who will not seek re-election as Regional Chairman, emphasized the importance of learning from the 2024 election, putting aside internal disagreements, and focusing on the 2028 election. He remarked, "We, the key members of the party gathered here and others, hold the panacea to our misfortune in the electoral market in the region. There is no better moment than now for us to close our ranks to work for the great party to which we are proud members."
He further called for discipline among party members, particularly at the constituency and grassroots levels, noting that anti-party activities during the 2024 elections had weakened the NPP. Despite a decline in the party's electoral fortunes during his eight-year tenure, Mr Namoo remained optimistic about the NPP's potential to regain strength in the region.
Highlighting the perseverance demonstrated by the party's older generation, Mr Namoo urged the younger members to learn from their tenacity and remain committed to the NPP. He also addressed those who felt wronged during his tenure, clarifying that any actions taken were in line with party rules and not driven by malice.
Mr Ussif Mustapha, Member of Parliament for Yagba-Kubori Constituency and a former Minister of Youth and Sports, served as the Guest of Honour. He also urged members to unite and begin preparations for the 2028 elections, emphasizing that internal conflicts undermine public trust and provide opponents with an advantage.
Mr Mustapha praised Mr Namoo's initiative to recognize party members' contributions and encouraged incoming executives to strengthen community presence, engage with farmers, traders, and the youth, and address their concerns. He stressed that the party's collective agenda should take precedence over individual ambitions to achieve victory in 2028.
The event concluded with citations honoring members of the Council of Elders and Patrons, former executives, dedicated party communicators, and Bolgatanga-based radio stations A1 Radio and Dreamz FM for their contributions to the party.
