Accra: The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has signaled its determination to regain political dominance in the 2028 general elections, vowing that no parliamentary seat currently held by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will remain untouchable.
According to Ghana Web, the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, delivered the message during an address to executives of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) at Parliament on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Speaking to the group, he encouraged them to ramp up grassroots engagement, stressing that success would hinge on discipline, loyalty, and continuous interactions with voters.
Afenyo-Markin emphasized that if elections were held today, the NPP would become the majority, but achieving this would require hard work and loyalty. He urged students to take an active role in shaping the party's future. The Effutu MP also critiqued the current administration, pointing to what he sees as a failure to fulfill campaign promises, including the stalled 24-Hour Economy policy, inability to raise cocoa producer prices, and recent hikes in utility tariffs.
Additionally, Afenyo-Markin called on TESCON members to dismiss suggestions that the NPP sidelines certain ethnic groups, asserting that the party is inclusive and committed to representing all Ghanaians regardless of background.
At the same gathering, Akuapim North MP Sammi Awuku reinforced the party's strategy, declaring that the NPP will leave no NDC-held seat uncontested. Awuku stated that they would be joining their colleagues to campaign vigorously, emphasizing that the 2028 election is all about ensuring no NDC seat remains safe and approaching every NDC seat as a normal seat.
