Newmount, MTN Ghana top 16th edition of club 100 awards
Accra, Newmont Golden Ridge Limited has emerged the best company in the sixteenth edition of the Ghana Club 100 awards organised by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) in Accra.
MTN Ghana was the second in the rankings followed by Ghana Oil Company Limited, Goldfield Ghana Limited and Vivo Energy.
UniBank retained the sixth position in the rankings, whiles Multi Pro Ghana Limited came seventh, followed by Nordea Capital as eighth position, Justmoh Limited came ninth, while Total Petroleum Ghana clinched the 10th position.
Other companies followed to the hundredth position including Ecobank Bank, Barclays Bank, Fan Milk GHANA Limited and Fidelity Bank.
This year’s event was on the theme: ”Industrialisation: A tool for job Creation and Accelerated Economic Development.
Mr Yaw Osarfo Margo, the Senior Minister President speaking at the GIPC Ghana Club 100 awards commended the companies for excelling in their respective disciplines.
The Ghana Club 100 (GC 100) is an annual compilation of the top 100 companies in Ghana to give due recognition to successful enterprise building.
The GC 100 is about corporate excellence, companies making it into the GC 100 are to serve as role models for the private sector and provide a forum for corporate Ghana to interact with the government at a high level.
He said government was committed to dialogue with captains of industry in the business arena to grow the sector.
He said industrialisation was a good measure for developed countries and as a tool for improving on the economic growth and government had tried to bring to bear four thematic areas of development including; microeconomic stability, infrastructural development, accelerated industrial development and agricultural transformation.
He said the top 100 companies in the country have a responsibility to help government to develop the economy by generating employment and move Ghana from low middle income country to middle income proper and finally to a developed country.
“Once you are in this top 100, you cannot do business as usual, each of you must try and bring improvement in your respective business operations,” he added.
Mr Yoofi Grant, the Chief Executive Officer of the GIPC, said the event was in line with the president’s vision of moving the economy towards production.
He said GIPC believed that channelling investments into the sector would support economic expansion and employ a lot of the youth along the manufacturing value chain.
“The theme’s objective is in line with government’s vision to use manufacturing through the one district, one factory initiative as an economic development and job creation tool,” he said.
The event this year witnessed Special Awards for outstanding business performers in selected categories, including Corporate Social Responsibility and the Highest Tax Paying Company.
The special awards were; Child friendly company-MTN Ghana, Highest Tax payer-MTN Ghana, Largest companies (MTN Ghana, Goldfield Ghana Limited and GOIL), Best new entrance company-wide Nordea Capital and Most Profitable Company (Multi Pro Ghana Limited, Vivo Energy Ghana Limited and Newmont Ghana Limited).
The rest are; the GC Best companies in CSR; UniBank and Newmont Akyem Mines, Best listed companies-Fan Milk Ghana Limited, GOIL and Starwin, Fastest Growing Companies (Nordea Capital and Glico Gel healthcare).
