Newly Elected GOC Executives Meet Sports and Recreation Minister


Accra: The newly elected executives of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) have paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, to formally introduce themselves. Led by the new GOC President, Mr. Richard Kofi Akpokavie, the elected executives sought the blessing of the sector minister as they aim to elevate Ghanaian sports.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Adams welcomed the GOC delegation and assured them of his support, emphasizing that sports is a significant business that should not be solely managed by the government. He praised the peaceful organization of their elective congress and commended them for maintaining the committee’s image. Additionally, he highlighted the integration of the Commonwealth Games Association into their mandate as a commendable achievement.

The Sports and Recreation Minister stressed the importance of increasing female participation in the GOC, encouraging women to actively pursue leadership roles within the organization. Mr. Adams also advi
sed the members on the importance of teamwork, stating, “We will succeed only when we work together.”

Mr. Akpokavie, President of the GOC, expressed his gratitude to the Minister for attending their elective congress despite his busy schedule. He emphasized the importance of paying homage to the Minister before commencing their duties and pledged the GOC’s full support for the success of the sporting community.

The meeting was attended by several GOC members, including Alhaji Kamal Sulley, Nana Mankata II, Edwin Amankwah, Rafatu Inusah, Samuel Ayeh, Nii Lante Bannerman, Mawuko Afadzinu, Delphina Quaye, Mohammed Muniru Kassim, Yeboah Evans, George Lamptey, and Ernest Danso.
