New Black Stars Coach Carlos Queiroz Arrives in Ghana for Official Unveiling

Accra: The new head coach of the Black Stars, Carlos Queiroz, has arrived in Ghana ahead of his official unveiling on Thursday, April 23, 2026. The veteran tactician was welcomed at the Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday evening and is expected to stay at a hotel tonight before addressing a press conference at the Alisa Hotel on Thursday afternoon.

According to Ghana Web, the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, in collaboration with all key stakeholders, appointed Carlos Queiroz as the head coach of the senior national team last week, replacing Otto Addo. Queiroz, who has previously managed teams like Real Madrid, Manchester United, Portugal, and Iran, will now lead Ghana's campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

The Portuguese tactician brings with him a wealth of experience, having led South Africa's World Cup qualification campaign in 2022. He also guided Portugal to the knockout phase in 2010 and managed Iran during the 2014 and 2018 tournaments. Despite the high expectations surrounding his appointment, sources indicate that there is no undue pressure on him as he gears up to lead Ghana in the global showpiece in June.
