Accra: The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), under its chairman, Dr Nii Moi Thompson, is set to conduct nationwide consultations from February 18 to March 27, 2026. These consultations aim to explore sustainable development opportunities for Ghana amidst rapid global economic changes that present new challenges and opportunities for developing nations.
According to Ghana Web, these discussions are timely as Ghana experiences significant improvements in macroeconomic indicators, including decreases in inflation and interest rates and a historic appreciation of the cedi against the US dollar. This economic stability has been supported by an IMF program initiated in 2023, buoyed by increased commodity prices, particularly gold, and significant fiscal reforms by the Ministry of Finance that have minimized government spending waste.
With the IMF program scheduled to conclude in 2026, the government prioritizes strategies to transition from stability to diversified and resilient economic growth. The Ghana Infrastructure Plan (GIP), introduced by the President in October 2025, will play a central role in these consultations.
The consultations will involve the 16 regional coordinating councils and various houses of chiefs, emphasizing local economic development as a cornerstone for national growth strategies. Post-regional consultations, the Commission plans to engage parliamentary leaders, regional parliamentary caucuses, and political parties.
For political parties, the agenda includes discussions on a policy and legislative guide for manifesto preparation, results-based management for party leaders, and understanding the post-war global economy's implications for countries like Ghana.
Dr Thompson will be accompanied by Dr Audrey Smock Amoah, Director-General of the Commission, and senior policy analysts. They will collaborate with regional representatives at each consultation stop.
