Accra: New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator and spokesperson for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has alleged that his successor at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD) was instructed by the government to find incriminating evidence against him. Aboagye claims that the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD, Gameli Hoedoafia, communicated this through a mutual acquaintance, urging him to refrain from criticizing the government.
According to Ghana Web, Aboagye revealed that Gameli Hoedoafia initially asked a mutual friend to warn him to cease his criticism, as there was pressure to uncover faults in Aboagye's tenure as Executive Secretary. Speaking on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen, Aboagye stated that he refused to comply, emphasizing that representing the NPP and Dr. Bawumia was integral to his role.
Aboagye recounted a meeting with Hoedoafia and the mutual friend, where the request to remain silent was reiterated. Aboagye maintained that silence was not an option, as it conflicted with his responsibilities. Following his refusal, Aboagye reported receiving a series of official communications, culminating in a petition from the IMCCoD Executive Secretary, demanding investigations into alleged misconduct during his tenure.
He detailed subsequent events, including an audit report that required his response. Aboagye mentioned that a second draft of the report raised additional issues, prompting a meeting request with the auditors. Ultimately, he was informed of a financial loss incurred by the committee, necessitating a refund.
Furthermore, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has linked Aboagye's recent arrest at Kotoka International Airport to alleged financial and procurement irregularities amounting to approximately GHS55 million during his time at IMCCoD.
