Adaklu: Mr. Daniel Korda, an official from the Adaklu District National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has emphasized the importance of the National Sanitation Day exercise as a civic responsibility for all Ghanaians. He advocated for collective participation to enhance the cleanliness of homes and communities.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Korda expressed that embracing the initiative would contribute to the eradication of diseases such as malaria, typhoid, and diarrhea. This was highlighted during his participation in the community cleanup at Adaklu Kodzobi, marking the February 2026 edition of National Sanitation Day (NSD).
The community engaged in activities such as desilting gutters, weeding access roads, and collecting and burning waste materials. NSD, observed on the first Saturday of every month, was instituted by President John Dramani Mahama to promote nationwide cleanliness.
Mr. Korda criticized communities indifferent to the initiative, noting that their lack of participation diverts funds from productive ventures to healthcare expenses. He commended Adaklu Kodzobi for their active involvement, acknowledging them as the cleanest community in the district.
Ms. Ruth Doris Kobla from the Adaklu District Environmental Health Office urged other communities to follow Adaklu Kodzobi's example. She expressed concern over leaders hesitant to mobilize their communities, attributing this to a lack of understanding of the day's benefits.
Ms. Kobla announced plans to collaborate with community leaders to prosecute those refusing to participate in the sanitation activities. Mr. Seth Soglo, a youth leader, revealed that the community had independently observed the first Saturday as a communal labor day, enforcing fines on those who avoided participating.
