My next show in the UK will be held at the O2 Arena

Ghanaian rapper Medikal has stated that he is planning to host his next UK show at the O2 Arena to accommodate the massive crowd of fans who came for his recent concert.

Medikal’s Indigo O2 concert on May 3, 2024, which featured performances by top artistes like Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Bisa Kdei, Malcolm Nuna, and Jay Bhad, was a major success.

Making an appearance on United Showbiz, Medikal opened up about the unexpected turnout at the concert and the lessons learnt for future shows.

He stated that he expected a huge turnout due to the publicity and buzz invested in the show, but did not expect an overflow of fans at the 2,700-capacity venue.

He added that he had learnt his lesson and would work on getting a bigger venue to accommodate his fan base.

“The way we invested in the event and generated attention towards it, it was only right that people come in their numbers.

“But I’ve learned my lesson that next time I do a show in the UK, I will opt for a bigger venue because I didn’t expect the massive cro
wd that came. There were people stuck outside because the inside was already filled up,” he said.

When quizzed about the next possible venue for a future UK show, Medikal hinted at the possibility of booking the 20,000-capacity O2 Arena to ensure ample space for fans.

“The O2 Arena, because we want a very big space so a lot of people can attend and see the performances,” he revealed.

Medikal also gave reasons for the disproportionate timing of performances at the concert, stating that the event started later than publicised because many fans arrived later than expected.

He added that he had to squeeze in performances in the little time left to avoid breaching the agreement he had with the facility management.

“They couldn’t come on time, that was the main problem, and I don’t blame them because many of them had to go to work, and by the time they closed and got ready to get to the venue, it wasn’t favourable,” he said.

“We were supposed to end the show at 11 pm on the dot due to the agreement I had with
the facility managers. If it had gone past 11 pm, I would have had to pay over £300,000 in penalties, and I couldn’t afford that,” he explained.
