Muslim Women Encouraged to Foster Peace and Contribute to Nation Building

Amasaman: The Women's Wing of the Islamic Mission Secretariat (IMS) has urged Muslim women to maintain tolerance and coexist peacefully with women of other religious faiths and beliefs. Hajia Mariam Nketia-Suleiman, the National Secretary of the Wing, called on Muslim women to contribute to building a better society by avoiding religious and ethnic sentiments and hatred. According to Ghana News Agency, Hajia Nketia-Suleiman delivered this advice during the closing session of the 28th National Conference of the Wing in Amasaman, located in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region. The four-day conference centered on the theme: 'Preserving Islamic values as women in the contemporary world towards national development.' Hajia Nketia-Suleiman emphasized that Islam encourages individuals to be peacemakers, reject corruption, protect the environment, support education, discourage violence, stand for justice, and serve their communities. She highlighted that building a better society and Ghana is a col lective responsibility, stressing that the government alone cannot handle this task and underscoring the importance of Muslim women contributing their part meaningfully. She further elaborated that Ghana is a shared home and that its development is a shared responsibility. As Muslim women, they must not only promote their faith but also contribute to holistic national development with pure intentions. Hajia Nketia-Suleiman encouraged Muslim women to share knowledge and remain dedicated to serving the nation. She stressed that building a prosperous country requires strengthened peace, justice, honesty, respect, tolerance, and compassion. Muslim families should teach their children to respect the elderly and tolerate other faiths and beliefs. Muslim women, she advised, should also be responsible for their homes and families' well-being, as a mother serves as a child's first teacher. Referencing the Holy Quran 'Surah Al-Ahzab verse 35', she urged Muslim families to raise their children responsibly, instilling values of truthfulness, discipline, compassion, and humility. Hajia Nketia-Suleiman concluded by stating that their faith must be visible in their conduct and character, encouraging Muslim women to continue supporting their husbands in maintaining their families.
