Accra: Mothers are being encouraged to raise awareness among their children about the significant sacrifices and contributions made by fathers for the well-being of their families. This call to action emphasizes the importance of recognizing the efforts and provisions made by fathers, even when work commitments often keep them away from home.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Enoch Gyasi Boateng, an Information Officer at the Information Services Department (ISD), expressed concern over a growing trend of overlooking fathers' contributions. He highlighted the extensive responsibilities that many fathers shoulder, including long working hours and time spent away from home to ensure financial stability for their families. Mr. Boateng stressed the importance of children understanding these sacrifices, which would foster an appreciation for their fathers' efforts.
Mr. Boateng provided examples of fathers enduring long hours on highways and sleeping under trucks while working, illustrating the physical and emotional toll of providing for their families. Similarly, Mr. Felix Attukwei Quaye, Deputy Director of Information Technology at the GNA, emphasized that fatherhood is not limited to biological roles but encompasses leadership, nurturing, resource provision, and guidance.
Mr. Morkporkpor Anku, a journalist with the GNA, urged wives and mothers to avoid downplaying fathers' roles in the household, which could create a misleading impression of indifference. He shared his own experiences of fulfilling fatherly duties with joy, despite challenges. Mr. Samuel Kwei Quaye, Technical Coordinator at the GNA, underscored the deep commitment of many fathers towards their children's welfare, attributing improvements in responsible fatherhood to advancements in technology that facilitate stronger connections.
Ms. Regina Tagoe from the ISD shared her positive experiences with her responsible father, expressing hope for changing negative perceptions about fathers. Ms. Sandra Amarkai Ollennu, a National Service Personnel at the GNA, reflected on the influence of her late father, describing him as a loving and caring parent whose impact continues to inspire her.
