Accra: The mother of Daniel Yussif, who is closely associated with Frederick Kumi, known as Abu Trica, has expressed her anguish over the continued detention of her son. Daniel Yussif was arrested for his alleged involvement in a scheme defrauding elderly American citizens of over $8 million.
According to Ghana Web, Yussif's mother made an emotional plea in a video, which was viewed on June 24, 2026. She lamented that her son remains in custody, despite the release of his three co-accused on bail. She highlighted the deteriorating health condition of her son, who has been detained for six months, and urged the authorities to grant him bail.
"They arrested four people, including my son. They have freed all of them except for my son, Daniel," she stated. She emphasized that her son was innocent and was merely attempting to make an honest living. Her plea included a call to prevent his extradition to the United States to face trial.
The distraught mother questioned the impact of extraditing her son on Ghana's issues, asserting, "Are they trying to sell my son? We have gold, diamonds and other minerals, so will the extradition of my son Daniel solve Ghana's problems?" She urged other mothers to voice their support and expressed her inability to sleep due to her son's situation.
She concluded her appeal by reaching out to Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, asking her to intervene in her son's case, following his arrest at the Accra International Airport on January 14, 2026, as he allegedly attempted to escape the country.
