The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) is implementing a $40 million Food Systems Resilience Programme to aid farmers impacted by the Akosombo and Kpong dam spillages.
The exercise which started today is distributing farm inputs such as seed and fertilizer to over 3,624 farmers’ first batch of farmers in the North Tongu Districts.
This initiative, funded by the World Bank, will specifically target farmers along the Volta and Eastern stretches of the Akosombo Dam’s path, whose lands were destroyed due to necessary actions taken by the Volta River Authority (VRA) to safeguard the nation.
Giving expression to a statement made at a presidential youth in an agribusiness forum held at the University of Ghana, the sector Minister, Dr. Bryan Acheampong has taken steps to fully restore farmers on the Volta and Eastern stretch of the Akosombo Dam’s path, whose farms were wiped out due to the spillage action taken by the Volta River Authority last year, the Minister for Acheampong Agriculture.
These essential a
gricultural supplies included improved seeds, fertilizers, and crop protection chemicals. The provision of quality seeds fertilizers, and agrochemicals is crucial for enhancing crop production, farm productivity, and farmer income, particularly in developing countries.
Ensuring the availability, affordability, accessibility, and quality of farm inputs is vital for promoting agricultural prosperity and inclusive rural development. This initiative aims to support smallholder farmers in Ghana and contribute to the overall growth and resilience of the nation’s food systems.
