Accra: Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin recently participated in a solidarity event with Asafo Company Number One and Two from Efutu at his residence in Accra. During the visit, Afenyo-Markin joined the groups in chanting 'Sammy at?n gold, ab? ka,' a phrase highlighting a significant financial controversy.
According to Ghana Web, the chant, which translates to 'Sammy sold gold and incurred a loss,' is connected to the ongoing debate over a reported $1.7 billion loss from the Bank of Ghana's Domestic Gold Purchase Programme in 2025. The Minority Leader has been vocal in demanding transparency and questioning the involvement of GoldBod in this financial debacle.
Despite the allegations, GoldBod's Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, has dismissed claims of the company incurring such a loss, labeling them as false. He has defended the company's financial health by citing an operational surplus, countering the narrative of financial mismanagement.
