Accra: Two Ghanaian citizens, Barbara Twum and Jennifer Owusu, have petitioned President John Dramani Mahama over alleged sexually suggestive remarks linked to Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene. The minister's comments were directed at former National Youth Authority Deputy CEO Akosua Manu.
According to Ghana Web, in a petition dated June 10, 2026, the two citizens claim that a Facebook post, 'Akosua Kumaa, wokon do anaa? You want to have a taste of it?' allegedly attributed to the minister, contained sexually explicit and degrading language. They argue that the comments amount to sexual harassment and violate standards of professionalism and dignity expected of public officials.
The petition highlights serious breaches of the Presidential Code of Conduct and Ethics (2025) by Dr Frank Amoakohene, arising from his allegedly offensive and misogynistic remarks published on social media. The petitioners further assert that the comments breach provisions of the Presidential Code of Conduct, particularly rules on civility, respect, and the duty of public officers to treat citizens with dignity, especially women.
Twum and Owusu believe that such language creates a hostile and humiliating environment for women in public life and undermines constitutional principles on equality. They are requesting that the presidency invoke Section 6 of the Code to investigate the matter, issue a formal written reprimand to the minister, and consider terminating his appointment due to the seriousness of the alleged conduct.
The Office of the President has yet to respond publicly to the petition.
