Accra: Ghanaian clubs Medeama SC and Nations FC have been eliminated from continental competition after suffering aggregate defeats in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup preliminary rounds, respectively.
According to Ghana News Agency, Medeama's CAF Champions League campaign concluded on Saturday, September 12, with a 3-1 defeat to TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi, sealing a 4-1 aggregate loss to the Congolese team. The reigning Ghana Premier League champions traveled to the Stade TP Mazembe trailing 1-0 from the first leg at the TnA Stadium but were unable to overturn the deficit against Mazembe. The hosts took early control, with Patrick Mwanungulu scoring in the 16th minute and Kazema Baso doubling the advantage eight minutes later. Mazembe remained dominant, with Mwanungulu completing his brace in the 78th minute. Although Dominic Amponsah scored a late goal for Medeama in the 87th minute, it was insufficient to prevent their exit from the competition.
On Sunday, Nations FC's inaugural CAF Confederation Cup campaign ended after drawing 1-1 with FC Diarra at the Accra Sports Stadium. The MTN FA Cup holders entered the second leg needing to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit and dominated possession while searching for a comeback. However, FC Diarra struck first, increasing their aggregate advantage. Despite Nations FC's equalizer and continued efforts to find a decisive goal, they could not secure the breakthrough needed for extra time or qualification. The Malian side held firm for a 1-1 draw, completing a 2-1 aggregate victory.
The results mean Ghana's two representatives in this season's CAF inter-club competitions have both exited at the preliminary stage, ending their continental ambitions before reaching the group phase.
