Tarkwa:Alfred Mensah, a 19-year-old mason, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labor by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for defiling a seven-year-old kindergarten pupil.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mensah, who lived in Awodua in the Western Region, pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and was convicted based on his own plea. The victim's mother, who lodged the complaint, reported that the incident occurred in their family home.
The Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Joseph Lartey, informed the court that on April 26, 2026, Mensah lured the victim's younger sibling away under the pretense of sending them to buy biscuits, then gave the victim a mobile phone to play with. He subsequently lured the victim into a room and sexually assaulted her.
Mary Yeboah, who was present in the house at the time, entered the room and caught Mensah in the act. She immediately informed the victim's mother, who reported the incident to the police in Awodua. A medical examination conducted at the Apinto Government Hospital confirmed the defilement.
Following the report, Mensah was apprehended by the police in Awodua and was transferred to the Western Central Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit for further investigations.
