Accra: Business executive Mary Aboah has shared insights into a pivotal moment in her career when she declined a significant job offer after learning she was pregnant. The revelation came during her address at the second edition of Convergence of Mothers, an event organized by media personality MzGee.
According to Ghana Web, Aboah was working in the financial sector and had set her sights on a new role at a much larger institution. Having successfully navigated the recruitment process, she was on the brink of accepting the position when a routine medical check-up revealed her pregnancy. Aboah discovered she was already more than 12 weeks along, which prompted a difficult decision between advancing her career or focusing on her family.
In the face of this dilemma, Aboah turned to her husband for advice. He encouraged her to prioritize her wellbeing and that of their unborn child, suggesting that better opportunities would come in the future. Trusting his guidance, Aboah chose to step back from the job offer and concentrate on her growing family.
Reflecting on the decision, Aboah noted that after having her children, unforeseen opportunities began to present themselves. She expressed gratitude for the path her life took, as new doors opened professionally once her family was complete. Aboah emphasized the importance of viewing career sacrifices as temporary and encouraged women to see them as part of a larger journey, rather than an end to their ambitions.
