Accra: The Chief Executive Officer of Servistar Minwax (WA) Limited and former Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Authority, Mr. Henry Ekow Manly-Spain, has refused to accept a judgment debt payment amounting to GHS 79,651,132.62 that was awarded to his company against the Ghana Revenue Authority.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Manly-Spain expressed his surprise over the substantial amount granted, as he was expecting a judgment debt payment closer to GHS 8,951,543. "The money the court awarded to my company to be paid by the Bank of Ghana is far bigger than what we filed at court against GRA. So I'm confused about the amount awarded to my company," Manly-Spain remarked.
In a statement issued to the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Manly-Spain emphasized that he could not, in good conscience, accept funds significantly exceeding what his company initially sought. He highlighted the country's pressing development needs, stating, "The state needs money for development projects. Hospitals are crying for equipment, including dialysis machines. I cannot enjoy this money. It's far more than what we filed." He further clarified his willingness to receive only the amount his company originally claimed.
In light of these developments, Mr. Manly-Spain has urged the government to launch an investigation into how the judgment debt payment ballooned to such an unexpected figure. His call for an inquiry aims to address the discrepancies and ensure transparency in the process.
On July 22, 2026, the High Court of Justice (Commercial Division 3) in Accra, presided over by Justice Doris Awuah Dabanka-Bekoe, ordered the Bank of Ghana not to release the entire amount held in the refund account, which totals GHS 627,104,657.5, but specifically to disburse the GHS 79,651,132.62 to Servistar Minwax (WA) Limited, the Plaintiff/Judgment Creditor. This payment was directed to be made into the account of Logan and Associate-Clients Account at ABSA Bank Ghana Limited, Ring Road Branch, Accra.
The legal proceedings involve Servistar Minwax (WA) Limited as the plaintiff-creditor and the Ghana Revenue Authority as the defendant-debtor. Meanwhile, the Ghana Revenue Authority has announced its intention to appeal the judgment issued against them.
