According to Ghana News Agency, the meeting highlighted President Mahama's anticipated role as the African Union Chair in 2027. Mr. Guterres commended Ghana's leadership, especially within the West African subregion. The discussions concentrated on regional peace and stability, emphasizing the security situation in the Alliance of Sahelian States (AES) member countries.
The UN Chief was updated on President Mahama's diplomatic efforts to mediate and restore peace in the Sahel. Mr. Guterres assured the United Nations' full support for President Mahama's future chairmanship of the African Union, acknowledging Ghana's significant role in addressing Africa's challenges.
At the meeting's conclusion, Mr. Guterres presented President Mahama with a special gift-a copy of the UN Charter in all six official languages of the United Nations.
