The Electoral Commission of Ghana has confirmed reports of technical challenges in the 2024 Limited Voters’ Registration Exercise, which commenced on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.
In a statement sighted by GhanaWeb, the EC explained that the technical challenges, which were experienced at some registration centres, had to do with internet connectivity.
The commission, however, noted that the issue was resolved by noon on Tuesday, and the registration exercise is now proceeding smoothly at all registration centres.
‘The Commission wishes to bring to the attention of the general public that, following our monitoring of the Voters’ Registration Exercise this morning, we observed some technical challenges with internet connectivity at a number of our centres. This delayed the start of the registration at a number of the registration centres.
‘We are happy to note that by 12 pm, the technical issues at most of the registration centres had been resolved. Consequently, the registration exercise is proceeding smoothly in
almost all the registration centres nationwide,’ part of the statement reads.
It added, ‘The Commission will continue to monitor the registration exercise and promptly address any issues that may arise. We encourage all qualified applicants to avail themselves and register to vote in their respective districts.’
According to a report by adomonline.com, the registration exercise, which is for first-time voters, was delayed at the former head office of the Electoral Commission (EC) at North Ridge in Accra.
The report indicated that the delay was attributed to technical difficulties.
The centre is being used to register prospective voters from the Korle Klottey and other nearby constituencies.
