The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) and the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) have urged Ghanaians to continue to be security conscious, even as they prayed for the peace of God in Ghana.
They also appealed to citizens to remain calm in the face of the security warnings, be watchful and report unusual activities in their communities to the security services.
A statement jointly signed by Rev. Dr Justice Adjei K. Lawson, Vice Chairman, CCG; Rev Drril G. K. Fayose, General Secretary, CCG; Most Rev. Philip Naameh, President, GCBC; Rev. Fr. Lazarus Anondee, Secretary-General, GCBC said the two Bodies were deeply concerned about the threat of terrorist attacks on religious gatherings in the country.
It thanked and appreciated the National Security for their swift promptings of caution to the citizens of the country.
The statement urged them to continue to be vigilant, especially on the borders of the country.
It noted that the National Security had assured that they were on top of matters and appealed to Member Churches to ensure adequate security measures at worship places.
They entreated all churches to set up security committees with experts who can educate church members on security awareness.
The statement advised Churches to also set up security cameras to monitor all those who came in and around their premises.
“Moreover, we appeal to members who own houses and shops to be careful of those who rent them,” it added.
It said the leadership of the CCG and GCBC were saddened by the clash between the youth and the police at Nkoranza in the Bono East Region on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, which led to the death of one person with several others injured.
The statement said they had heard many reports in the media that had questioned the professionalism of the Police Service in such matters and had taken note of similar examples that had taken place in the recent past.
It assured the good citizens of Ghana that they would arrange a meeting with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to make the concerns of the citizens know.
The statement encouraged all Ghanaians to always have confidence in the rule of law and never take the law into their own hands but continue to pray for peace for the nation.
