Bawku: A lecturer at Gbewaa College of Education in Pusiga in the Upper East Region has reportedly died after an alleged assault by military personnel deployed to the Bawku area. The deceased, identified as Issaka Abdulai, was a lecturer with the college's Science Department. Management of the institution confirmed his death in a statement issued on September 12, 2026, saying he died after an alleged incident involving military personnel on the night of Friday, September 11. According to Ghana Web, the lecturer was allegedly arrested while riding a motorbike during curfew hours. His death subsequently triggered protests in Pusiga on Saturday morning, with residents taking to the streets to express their anger. Some protesters reportedly blocked roads and set tyres on fire as they demanded answers over the lecturer's death and the conduct of security personnel operating in the area.
