Accra: Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has identified three critical areas that must be addressed if Ghana football is to compete with the world's best once again. Speaking in an interview with 3sports on youth development, Kingston stressed that player development must become a deliberate and structured process rather than leaving young talents to progress on their own.
According to Ghana Web, the former Black Stars winger emphasized that the first priority should be to ensure that a clear framework guides every player's development. "First of all, before you develop a player, you should have something that can guide that development," he said. Kingston also called for a defined pathway for players, insisting that young footballers should not be abandoned after being introduced into the system. "We need to focus on that, do that, and then also make sure we direct the player's pathway. We don't just put them out there and then leave them," he added.
The 45-year-old further emphasized the importance of appointing qualified coaches to appropriate roles, arguing that the right personnel are essential for nurturing the next generation of talent. "And make sure we put the right coaches at the right positions that we believe they can help them," he stated.
Kingston believes implementing these three measures - structured player development, clear career pathways, and the appointment of capable coaches - will significantly improve Ghana's football fortunes. "If we can put those things in place, I think it's going to help us a lot," he concluded. Laryea Kingston says these three things must change if Ghana football wants to compete with the best again.
