Accra: Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr took a swipe at Nana Akomea, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), during a tense live TV exchange on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana. The confrontation unfolded after Akomea called into the show, alleging that Pratt had made disparaging remarks about him.
According to Ghana Web, the incident began when Nana Akomea, chairman of the NPP's select committee on communications, accused Pratt of concocting a message about a recent attack on an NPP constituency vice chairman. Akomea claimed that Pratt suggested the attack was linked to the vice chairman's involvement with a woman he had been warned to stay away from. However, it was clarified that Pratt had not made such allegations.
Eugene Boakye Antwi, a co-panellist and former NPP Member of Parliament for Subin, highlighted that Akomea had been misinformed by the person who prompted his call. Antwi stated he would have defended Akomea if Pratt had indeed made false statements. Following this, Akomea raised a second allegation, accusing Pratt of misconstruing his advice to NPP members regarding a party position challenge against Miracles Aboagye. On this occasion, it was confirmed that Pratt accurately reported Akomea's comments.
Expressing his displeasure, Pratt criticized Akomea for making what he considered unnecessary accusations on the platform. Pratt urged Akomea not to rely on hearsay, saying, "Don't let people keep calling you to come and make such unnecessary statements on this platform."
Despite the clarifications, Akomea expressed his intention to review the program to verify Pratt's statements. Pratt, in response, reminded Akomea of his stature and past roles, urging him not to believe unfounded tales. He stated, "Nana, you are not a small boy. You have risen to become Minister of Information. You held many important positions in this country. You are one of the key persons in the Bawumia campaign team. Don't sit at home and make people call you and tell you fairy tales."
