Nsawam: A delegation made up of over 150 football legends, musicians, actors, politicians, business leaders, and media personalities paid a visit to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison on Thursday, May 21, 2026, to donate items and share words of encouragement with inmates.
According to Ghana Web, the outreach programme was organised by the Kwesi Nyantakyi Foundation in partnership with the Joana Gyan Foundation, the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), and the Ghana Football Association. Amenfi Central MP Joana Gyan Cudjoe spoke about the initiative, highlighting its purpose of demonstrating compassion and restoring hope to the inmates. She emphasized the importance of reminding the inmates that they are valued and not forgotten.
Joana Gyan Cudjoe described the experience as emotional, reflecting on how numerous inmates found themselves in prison due to missed opportunities, poor decisions, or a lack of legal representation. She noted the mixed emotions witnessed during the visit, from pain and regret to hope and gratitude. The sight of inmates expressing their appreciation for the compassion shown to them was particularly touching for her.
The event also saw the presence of former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi and current GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, whose joint appearance was hailed as a symbol of unity and national development. Football legends such as Abedi Ayew and PFAG President Samuel Osei Kuffour were part of the delegation, along with PFAG General Secretary Anthony Baffoe and Treasurer Solomon Torson.
Musicians including Dr Cryme, Patapaa, Stay Jay, and Grace Ashley participated by entertaining the inmates and delivering messages of hope and encouragement. The delegation donated various items, including jerseys, footballs, tracksuits, bags of rice, fish, drinking water, and an undisclosed amount of cash for both inmates and prison officers.
A highlight of the event was a football match between the inmates' team and former Ghana national football team players. The match ended in a 1-1 draw after regulation time, with the inmates' team emerging victorious in a 3-2 penalty shootout. Their victory was rewarded with a cash prize of GH?20,000 for defeating the Black Stars legends.
