Accra: Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has unveiled details regarding financial transactions involving Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi. He explained how the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) funds were allegedly used and subsequently frozen amid ongoing investigations.
According to Ghana Web, Kwakye Ofosu, while speaking on the Key Points on TV3, revealed that COCOBOD paid GHS50 million to Chairman Wontumi on January 8, 2025, for work he reportedly completed. The government spokesperson outlined that a substantial portion of the funds was allocated to Treasury Bills, while the remainder was utilized to establish a private insurance company.
Kwakye Ofosu stated, "On the 8th of January 2025, GHS50 million was paid to Chairman Wontumi by COCOBOD for some work he was said to have done. He moved GHS30 million to purchase Treasury Bills and about GHS23 million was used to set up an insurance company. All these have been frozen."
Authorities have taken measures to freeze assets tied to these transactions as part of the ongoing investigation. Further updates are anticipated as officials continue to examine the matter.
