Baku:The Chief Executive Officer of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam, has appealed to the Parliament's Select Committee on Health for assistance in securing a new 200-bed Accident and Emergency Centre. This request aims to alleviate the burden on the hospital's current 64-bed emergency unit.
According to Ghana Web, Dr. Adam emphasized the necessity for a larger emergency centre due to the hospital's role in handling cases from across Ghana. The hospital currently has a total bed capacity of nearly 2,000 but requires additional emergency facilities to accommodate the influx of patients more effectively.
Dr. Adam stated, "We want you to help us to build a new Accident and Emergency Centre with at least 200-bed capacity." However, he noted that simply increasing the number of beds would not entirely resolve the 'no bed syndrome' that plagues the healthcare system. The hospital is also focused on ensuring that emergency patients are transferred to other departments within 24 hours to improve patient flow.
Korle Bu Teaching Hospital serves as a major referral centre nationwide, with patients arriving from various regions. Dr. Adam highlighted the constant demand for emergency services and urged Parliament to support the hospital's proposed expansion to better serve the country's healthcare needs.
