Accra: Rapper Kojo Cue has opened up about a personal tragedy that led him to take a significant break from his music career. For two years, Kojo Cue stepped away from the music scene following the loss of his twin daughters at birth, an event that deeply affected him and his wife, Professor Priscilla Kolibea Mante.
According to Ghana Web, Kojo Cue shared his experience on 'The Pesewa' podcast, which aired on May 3, 2026. He revealed that during the COVID-19 pandemic, his wife gave birth to twin girls prematurely. The infants were placed in an incubator for two weeks but sadly did not survive. This loss occurred during the height of the pandemic, adding to the distress as they went into lockdown.
The rapper explained that this tragic event had a profound impact on his mental health, steering him away from his usual refuge in music. Typically, music served as a form of therapy for Kojo Cue, but he found himself unable to create or find solace in it this time. The overwhelming nature of the loss forced him to explore other avenues to cope with the grief.
Kojo Cue described his struggle with mental health issues, stating that he tried to escape the pain by immersing himself in various activities unrelated to music. He candidly spoke about how the incident was a pivotal moment for him, as he explored themes of fear, faith, and loss in his work. His song 'Gold Dust' from the album 'KANI: A Bantama Story' reflects the emotional turmoil he faced, capturing the panic, prayers, and fragile hope that accompanied the birth of his daughters.
