Accra:Veteran sports analyst Kojo Addae Mensah has suggested that Ghana should consider withdrawing from the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers due to the current coaching crisis.
According to Ghana Web, Mensah expressed concerns over the impact of dismissing the coach mid-qualifiers and the potential challenges in hiring a new manager. He emphasized that the timing could negatively affect the team's performance.
Mensah, the CEO of Databank Group, highlighted the difficulty in preparing the team effectively, given the limited time before the next fixtures. He noted the new manager might not have sufficient time to implement strategies and improve the team's performance.
He also commented on the financial implications and the short preparation period before the match against Somalia on November 11. Mensah indicated that the next coach would have only a week to work with the team, which he believes is insufficient.
Following the resignation of head coach Carlos Queiroz after defeats to Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia, Mensah suggested using the opportunity to build the team for future tournaments. He recommended pulling out of the AFCON qualifiers to avoid potential embarrassment.
