Baku:The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, stated that Yaw Ampofo Ankrah was suspended as Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) due to an ongoing investigation into the 2026 World Cup visa scandal.
According to Ghana Web, the suspension was implemented to facilitate a transparent investigation, contrary to reports suggesting that Ankrah had been dismissed. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service is handling one aspect of the investigation, while the government is examining other areas.
Kofi Adams, in an interview with Channel One TV, mentioned that all individuals implicated in the allegations are cooperating with the investigations. He emphasized that multiple layers of investigations are in progress, with the CID focusing on the alleged fraud and the government conducting a broader investigation into the World Cup-related matters.
The investigation involves the National Sports Authority (NSA), the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), and Tribe Culture Fest. Reports suggest that some individuals allegedly paid $15,000 for visa facilitation, failed to obtain visas, and subsequently requested refunds. The police continue to investigate to determine the circumstances and ensure accountability.
