Prampram,- Kiteko Ghana Limited, a Transport and Logistics company based in Kumasi has organized a three-day refresher workshop for its 180 drivers.
Mr Kwesi Gyamfi Onyina Acheampong, General Manager of Kiteko Ghana Limited said since its inception in 2004, the company had organized workshops annually to train both old and new drivers on driving etiquette, client management, check their medicals and licenses.
He noted that the workshop was to equip the drivers to prevent accidents and enable the company save on insurance cost and manpower as the health and safety of its staff was its biggest priority.
He stated that experts from institutions like Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), the Police, have served as resources persons on various topics, which offered the company the opportunity to share its vision going into the coming year.
“There are new trends coming on daily, new road regulations and we want the drivers to be well abreast with information and also business updates, what’s currently going on in the industry, what did we do last year and what needs to be improved on,” he said.
Mr Acheampong revealed that at the end of the workshop, drivers who have distinguished themselves would be awarded to serve as a motivation.
Mr John Asante Arhin, Manager, Driver Training Testing and Licensing of the DVLA, addressing participants, said fatal accidents mostly happen at night because driving at night was dangerous due to poor visibility.
He advised drivers to watch out for signs of fatigue such as scratching of head, dozing off, rubbing of eyes, and yawning uring them to make sure to rest for 30 minutes after driving for four hours.
Mr Benjamin Peh, Acting Head of Research, Business Development, and Innovation, DVLA, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, commended the company for organizing the workshop and encouraged all transport companies to emulate same.
“Training will make the roads safer because drivers will be educated on the right things to do while on the road and have the right document to drive,” he said.
