Accra: The former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has expressed his approval of the Court of Appeal's ruling to order a retrial in the defamation case lodged against him by veteran journalist Abdul Malik Kweku Baako.
According to Ghana Web, Agyapong took to his X page on Thursday, February 12, 2026, to share his reaction, stating, "The Court of Appeal has now set aside the High Court's judgment and ordered a retrial of the matter to ensure that the issues are properly determined. In addition, the Court has directed that all monies paid pursuant to the High Court's judgment be refunded to me within thirty (30) days."
He further expressed his faith in the judicial system, stating his confidence in the country's judicial process and his commitment to pursuing the matter through appropriate legal channels. The appeal follows a 2020 judgment by the Accra High Court in favor of Baako, which was rendered after sections of Agyapong's witness statements were struck out during the Case Management Conference (CMC) stage.
Agyapong had contested the decision, arguing that the process and its outcome did not fully encapsulate the essence of his case. The Court of Appeal's ruling to annul the High Court judgment and mandate a retrial aims to ensure a comprehensive examination of all pertinent issues. Additionally, the court's directive requires Baako to refund all payments received from Agyapong within 30 days.
