KEEA Assembly Allocates GHC267,518 to 94 Individuals with Disabilities in Support Initiative

Accra: Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem The Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipal Assembly (KEEA) has disbursed a total of GHC267,518 to 94 persons with physical challenges (PPCs) as part of its third-quarter initiative to enhance the livelihoods, education, and care of vulnerable residents within the municipality. According to Ghana News Agency, the funds were distributed to beneficiaries, including 26 individuals with varied disabilities, many of whom are women and children dealing with hearing and visual impairments and mental disorders. The initiative aimed to provide financial support for income-generating activities, educational assistance, and caregiving responsibilities. Of the beneficiaries, 50 received GHC3,000 each to start or expand business ventures, while 30 received educational support ranging from GHC1,500 to GHC3,000 to aid students from basic to tertiary levels. Additionally, eight caregivers received GHC4,000 each for caregiving duties, and six individuals received between GHC400 and GHC10,000 to address urgent health needs. Mr. Ismail Zagoon-Saeed, the Municipal Chief Executive, commended the Assembly's social-support initiative and encouraged community leaders to include persons with disabilities in development plans. He emphasized the Assembly's commitment to ensuring that vulnerable individuals have the resources needed to live with dignity and highlighted the importance of monitoring fund usage and providing complementary support when necessary. Mr. Samuel Atta-Mills, the Member of Parliament for the area, chaired the program and praised the disbursement as evidence of the Government's dedication to social inclusion. He announced plans to tour communities to inform constituents about parliamentary activities and gather feedback to inform national decisions. He urged community support to help implement a shared vision for development in KEEA. The disbursement event was overseen by Mr. Ntiamoah Gyampoh, Municipal Social Welfare and Community Development Officer. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude , noting the funds would enhance their independence and participation in daily activities, and called for continued and expanded support for individuals with disabilities.
