Accra: The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has expressed its gratitude to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) for its significant role in enhancing specialized healthcare services at the hospital within its inaugural year.
According to Ghana News Agency, the commendation followed the presentation of medical equipment and consumables worth over GHS4 million to KATH by the Trust Fund. The donation included a fully equipped Olympus endoscopy tower for gastroscopy and colonoscopy, two jaundice meters, and various respiratory, oxygen therapy, and anesthesia consumables. Lifecare Technology Ghana donated the larger consignment to the GMTF.
Ms. Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, Administrator of the GMTF, presented the equipment, noting that the gesture was part of the Fund's first-anniversary activities and reiterated its commitment to equipping health facilities with necessary resources. She acknowledged the support from the KATH Board, Chief Executive Officer, management, and staff.
Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, Chief Executive Officer of KATH, expressed appreciation for the GMTF's timely donation, highlighting the hospital's need to replace its over 10-year-old endoscopy machine. The donation allows the hospital to reallocate funds initially intended for replacement to other critical healthcare needs.
Dr. Baidoo also mentioned the Cardiac Intervention Centre, a significant project under construction with support from the GMTF. Despite KATH's 70-year history, the hospital has never had such a facility, marking a milestone in advancing specialized cardiac care in the region.
Reflecting on the Fund's achievements, Dr. Baidoo noted that its impact within a year felt as though it had been operating for decades. He extended his gratitude to the GMTF and Lifecare Technology Ghana for their support in improving healthcare delivery and patient outcomes at KATH.
