Kadjebi: The Kadjebi District Health Directorate has actively participated in the global observance of World Hypertension Day on May 17 through a campaign offering free blood pressure screenings. This initiative is part of the Ghana Health Service's 'Operation Measure 1 Million People' campaign.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Eric Nana Takyi, the Kadjebi District Director of Health Services, reported that over 500 hypertension cases are currently being managed at various health facilities within the district. He highlighted that May has been designated as Hypertension Month to enhance public awareness and foster early detection and management of high blood pressure.
Mr Takyi stated that the Ghana Health Service's national campaign, 'Operation Measure 1 Million People,' sees active participation from the Kadjebi District. Free blood pressure screenings are being conducted across all health facilities in the district to identify cases early and prevent severe complications such as stroke, heart attack, and kidney failure.
He emphasized the nature of hypertension as a 'silent killer,' noting that many individuals are unaware of their condition due to the lack of early symptoms. He underscored the importance of regular screening as the only way to ascertain one's blood pressure status.
Residents, including traders, farmers, teachers, and civil servants, are encouraged to utilize the free screening services available at Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, health centers, and hospitals. Mr Takyi advised, "Knowing your numbers can save your life and the lives of your loved ones."
Additionally, he called upon churches, mosques, schools, and community groups to mobilize their members to take part in the screening exercises throughout May. World Hypertension Day is observed every year on May 17 to promote awareness of the risks associated with high blood pressure.
