Tema, July 21, GNA – Professor Dennis Dominic Adjei, elected as a Judge of the African Court, is to be sworn-in at the opening of the 66th Ordinary Session of the court next month, August 29, 2022, in Arusha, Tanzania.

He will serve six-year term.

Prof Adjei from Ghana was elected at the just ended 41st Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union held in Lusaka, Zambia, while Justice Ntyam Ondo Mengue from Cameroon was re-elected for a second and final term of six years.

In pursuant to Rule Three of the Rules of the African Court and Article 16 of the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Establishment of an African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, Justice Adjei will take the oath of office on August 29th.

Lady Justice Imani Daud Aboud, President of the African Court in a congratulatory message copied to the Ghana News Agency in Tema commended the two Judges and wished them success as they carry on the noble task of pursuing justice and protection of human rights in Africa.

The African Court is composed of eleven Judges, nationals of Member States of the African Union elected in their individual capacity. The Court meets four times a year in Ordinary Sessions and may hold Extra-Ordinary Sessions.

The African Court is currently headed by Lady Justice Imani Daud Aboud a national of Tanzania as its President; Justice Blaise Tchikaya a national of Republic of Congo as the Vice President; and Justice Ben Kioko a national of Kenya as a member.

Others are Justice Rafaâ Ben Achour, a native of Tunisia; Lady Justice Ntyam Ondo Mengue a national of the Republic of Cameroon; Lady Justice Tujilane Rose Chizumila a national of Malawi; and Lady Justice Bensaoula Chafika a national of Algeria.

The rest are Lady Justice Stella Isibhakhomen Anukam a national of Nigeria; Justice Dumisa Ntsebeza a citizen of the Republic of South Africa; Justice Sacko Modibo a citizen of the Republic of Mali; and Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei of Ghana who would officially join on August 29th, 2022.
