Accra: Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards have labeled Benfica coach, Jos© Mourinho as a hypocrite following his comments about the alleged racial abuse directed at Vinicius Jnr by Gianluca Prestianni. Mourinho, who was seen speaking with Vinicius after the 25-year-old took the decision to walk off the pitch following the interaction with Prestianni, said he was told different things by both players regarding the incident. The legendary coach also accused the Brazilian of inciting the fans with his goal celebrations.
According to Ghana Web, Mourinho questioned Vinicius' actions post-goal, suggesting that the player incited the crowd. He commented, "Yes. I believe so. It should be the crazy moment of the game, an amazing goal. Unfortunately [he was] not just happy to score that astonishing goal. When you score a goal like that, you celebrate in a respectful way." Mourinho further stated, "I told [Vinicius], when you score a goal like that you just celebrate and walk back. When he was arguing about racism, I told him the biggest person in the history of this club [Eusebio] was black."
Reacting to Jos© Mourinho's comments, Carragher and Richards criticized Mourinho's stance, pointing out his history of celebratory antics. "It feels a bit rich... This is a guy who celebrates and antagonizes the opposition more than any coach has ever done," the CBS Sports pundits remarked.
