Accra: Lawyer and social activist, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has advised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to exercise caution, claiming the Ghana Police Service have served notice of intended arrests of anti-galamsey protesters. In a Facebook post dated February 27, 2026, he claimed that the police had given notice of their intention to apprehend demonstrators involved in the anti-illegal mining campaign. He warned the NDC party not to allow itself to be drawn into what he described as a calculated move by the law enforcement agency.
According to Ghana Web, Barker-Vormawor criticized the NDC's approach to the galamsey issue, implying that their lack of proactive measures could have adverse consequences. He stated, "The Ghana Police has given notice that it intends to arrest Stop Galamsey protesters today. NDC, it's a trap. Don't let the police lead you down this path. I know how it ends. I've seen the movie."
His remarks come at a time of renewed public agitation against illegal mining activities, commonly known as 'galamsey', which continue to pose environmental and health challenges. The police are yet to officially respond to Barker-Vormawor's comments ahead of the planned protest.
