Invest in a hype man to help boost your stagecraft – Vida Adutwumwaa to Medikal

Entertainment pundit Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng has shared her thoughts on Medikal’s recent concert at Indigo at the O2.

Medikal recently performed at a sold-out concert at the Indigo O2 in London, marking a significant moment for Ghanaian music on the global stage. The event saw Medikal joined by various Ghanaian artistes including Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, and Bisa Kdei.

Speaking on United Showbiz on UTV, Vida praised the artiste for his successful show, calling it a refreshing change. She, however, pointed out a dip in the show’s energy and suggested that a hype man be available to maintain the vibe.

Citing the example of Nigerian superstar Davido, who effectively uses hype-men to enhance his performances, Adutwumwaa stated that Medikal using a hype-man could significantly boost his stage presence and contribute to the advancement of his career.

“I don’t know if there was a hype man for the show, but it got to a point during his performance where the energy of the show became low. If you look at artistes lik
e Davido, they utilize hype men for their shows, and it makes the experience great. I’m sure that would propel his craft forward,” she stated.

Commenting on the controversy surrounding Medikal bringing up his ex-girlfriend, Sister Derby, for a performance, Adutwumwaa stated how she felt that Medikal’s focus on personal controversies might overshadow the event.

However, she later acknowledged the rapper’s clever strategy of leveraging on the divorce story to generate buzz before, during, and after the show.

“I was big on him not dwelling on the controversies because I thought it would sway attention from the show. I just realised that he had a bigger plan; I think he was strategic in selling the divorce story because when Sister Derby pulled up, it generated buzz after the show,” she added.
