Tarkwa: The Golden Tree Foundation, in partnership with Inspirers and Advocates International, multiple non-profit organizations, and the Women Ministry of the Church of Pentecost, Wassa Nsuta, observed the International Day of the Girl Child in Tarkwa. The event aimed to promote gender equality and foster a brighter future for girls.
According to Ghana News Agency, the organizers held separate events at Saint Mary’s Catholic School and Tarkwa Islamic School. The theme for this year was ‘The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis.’ The initiative sought to inspire female learners through interactive sessions led by Madam Mawuena Atta and Madam Gloria Addisu Hasford from Golden Tree Foundation. They emphasized the importance of confidence, learning, and discipline to enable girls to pursue their dreams and become transformative leaders.
Madam Ethel Gbogboe, a project coordinator from Inspirers and Advocates International, explained that the celebration addresses the challenges girls face and promotes their rights to education, health, and protection. Mrs. Agyeiwaa Yormesor, leader of the Women Ministry, urged the girls to stay connected to their maker, avoid pre-marital sex, and remain focused on their goals. The organizers also distributed stationery to support the girls in their academic pursuits.
The International Day of the Girl Child is commemorated annually on October 11 to highlight issues confronting girls, promote Sustainable Development Goals related to their development, and urge stakeholders to take action.
