Kumasi: The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has taken decisive action by deploying personnel from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters and the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit (AARU) to the Bono East and Northern Regions. This move comes in response to recent violent robbery incidents that have resulted in multiple casualties and injuries.
According to Ghana Web, the deployment was announced on the official Facebook page of the Ghana Police Service on May 3, 2026. It is part of intensified security operations and a targeted manhunt for armed groups responsible for the attacks. These incidents have left several people dead and others injured, prompting urgent police intervention.
The first attack occurred at a fuel station in Sampa, near Jato Zongo in the Atebubu-Amantin District of the Bono East Region. Armed assailants reportedly shot and killed two individuals, injured others, and fled with cash stolen from the station attendant. In a separate incident, another group of armed men ambushed a passenger bus near Nasia in the Northern Region, along the Bolgatanga-Tamale Highway, killing two passengers instantly and injuring several others.
The police have reaffirmed their commitment to apprehending the suspects involved in these violent events. "While we continue to intensify armed patrols in the affected areas, we assure the public that the perpetrators will be arrested to face the full rigours of the law," the police stated in their announcement.
