Ibrahim Mahama Promises Additional Financial Support for Black Stars

Accra: Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama has pledged extra financial backing for the Black Stars as the team prepares for their pivotal World Cup match against Croatia on June 27, 2026. Mahama, the founder of Engineers and Planners, visited the team's camp to express his support and confidence in the players and coaching staff.

According to Ghana Web, Mahama commended the team for their performances and shared his initial hesitation to fulfill a previous financial pledge. He stated that he wanted to see improved performances before fully committing his support. Now, feeling assured by the team's progress, he is eager to provide the promised funds.

Reflecting on his history with Ghanaian football, Mahama recalled attending the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, which he found disappointing, leading him to distance himself from the sport for a time. He credits his renewed interest in football to his family's enthusiasm, particularly his son's influence.

Mahama also expressed his admiration for head coach Carlos Queiroz, acknowledging the coach's ability to unify and strengthen the team in a short period. He promised the players a special bonus, separate from government incentives, as motivation to maintain their high level of performance.

He concluded by urging the Black Stars to make Ghana proud in their upcoming match, as anticipation builds around the team's World Cup journey.
