The Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has disclosed his strategy to address land disputes in the country if he achieves his presidential aspirations.
He plans to implement a system to digitalize land ownership records, ensuring they are readily accessible when needed.
Converting land records to digital form, he believes, will facilitate amicable dispute resolution and prevent conflicts involving individuals tasked with land protection (land guards).
During one of his campaign tours, Bawumia pledged to introduce a policy aimed at resolving land disputes to foster peace if he is elected president.
“One of my initial tasks as president will be to complete the digitalization of land. This is to confirm that issues of land ownership, including those of state lands, are digitalized, so people won’t need to resort to land guards who may resort to violence to assert land ownership.
“I am confident that with your support, we can digitalize our land registry nationwide
, which will significantly reduce disputes,” he said in a video shared by EDHUB on their X account.
Dr. Bawumia is set to contest against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, among other political party candidates, in the upcoming general elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.
