Legendary Highlife musician Nana Acheampong has called on the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to honor veteran Highlife artistes by naming significant landmarks after them.
During an interview on United Showbiz on May 4, 2024, Nana Acheampong pointed out the impact of Highlife music on national identity and urged that the hard work and contributions of icons such as ET Mensah, Adane Best, Koo Nimo, Nana Ampadu, and Daddy Lumba should not go unrecognized.
‘I am pleading with GHAMRO and the tourism ministry to help name some monuments after some influential veteran Highlife artistes, the streets, roundabouts, museums, etc.
‘Without music, there’s no life, what we do is very important to the nation.
‘So it is only fair that all these people are recognized for the hard work they put in: ET Mensah, Adane Best, Koo Nimo, Nana Ampadu, Daddy Lumba, etc.
‘Let’s start naming streets, roundabouts, museums, etc to honor them and their legacy,’ he said.

ng on his experiences abroad, Acheampong shared anecdotes of international fans suggesting that his fame in Ghana warrants a street or monument in his name.
According to him, doing so would not just honor these past musicians but also inspire and educate future generations.
‘That’s why I’m saying this on this platform so that those in authority would hear it and consider it.
‘This would help the young ones familiarize themselves with these greats and their legacies,’ he told show host MzGee.
