Accra: The High Court is set to hear a bail application on May 20, 2026, concerning Kwame Baffoe, the Bono Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, remains in detention as authorities continue their investigation into allegations of misinformation and offensive public comments.
According to Ghana Web, this development was announced by the NPP's General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, via a Facebook post on Tuesday, May 18, 2026. Kodua, along with other senior party officials, visited Abronye at the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to show their support. The visiting party included former Trade and Industry Minister K. T. Hammond, Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed, Central Regional Chairman Dennis Percyval Quaicoe, and Christopher Arthur, the party's 2024 parliamentary candidate for Agona West.
Kodua reported that despite his detention, Abronye remained positive and grateful for the backing he has received from party supporters nationwide. He described Abronye as 'resolute, courageous and in very high spirits.' Abronye expressed his gratitude to party members standing by him during this challenging time and urged supporters in the Bono Region to remain united and focused.
The NPP General Secretary also revealed that the regional chairman's legal team had filed a bail application at the High Court, expressing optimism about the outcome. Abronye reassured his supporters through Kodua's post, stating that his spirit is unbroken and his conviction unwavering, promising he would 'definitely be back.'
Abronye DC was initially remanded for two weeks after being rearrested on Wednesday, May 13, just weeks after he had been granted bail in connection with the same allegations. Security agencies continue to investigate claims related to misinformation and offensive public comments allegedly made by the politician.
