Aburaso: The Aburaso community, located along the Bechem-Kumasi highway, was plunged into mourning when a heavy-duty truck carrying lumber lost control, resulting in the tragic death of a pupil on Tuesday afternoon, October 28.
According to Ghana News Agency, the victim, who has yet to be identified, was on the way home from school with two other children who are now in critical condition. The accident occurred at approximately 1400 hours. Eyewitness and resident Mr. Evans Owusu reported in a telephone interview with the GNA that the truck, with the registration number GE 9901-11, lost control, causing the lumber to spill from the truck’s bucket and trap the children beneath.
Local residents, including young men from the area, quickly mobilized to rescue the victims. Unfortunately, one child was found deceased, while the two others were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
At the time of the report, Mr. Owusu noted that the truck continued to obstruct the Aburaso section of the highway, leading to a significant traffic jam as vehicles from both directions were unable to pass. Several passengers remained stranded due to the incident. The driver and the driver’s mate were reportedly unharmed and fled the scene.
